Fisetin is an amazing phytonutrient that supports healthy aging in multiple ways. It is a powerful senolytic that provides stellar antioxidant protection for the brain and internal organs and helps detoxify environmental toxins. Learn more about this potent nutrient and how it can help you!
A Smart Nutrient for Learning and Memory
Fisetin is a nootropic, or smart nutrient, that supports cognitive function, memory, and mental sharpness. Markers linked to stress, free radical stress, and synaptic function indicated that fisetin promoted enhanced recovery and supported healthy brain function. Whether used early or later in life, research shows fisetin improves learning and memory.
Fisetin provides promising antioxidant effects in the brain. It aids in the natural management of amyloid proteins, fibrils, metals, and oxidative stress in the nervous system.
Fisetin: Most Potent Senolytic Compound
A crucial part of healthy aging is your body’s ability to clear senescent cells, or old cells that have stopped dividing. Senolytic refers to a class of small molecules that can selectively induce death of senescent cells and improve health.
Numerous phytochemicals support senolytic activity, but which one is the front-runner? A 2018 study compared ten different flavonoids (fisetin, quercetin, curcumin, luteolin, and others) by measuring their senolytic activity. Results showed that fisetin was the most potent senolytic compound.
Fisetin’s anti-aging, senolytic activities affect cellular inflammatory mechanisms, immune-germ surveillance, and clean-up of rogue dysfunctional cells. It has been shown to reduce cellular levels of iNOS, TNF-a, COX2. Fisetin is a powerful bioactive compound for longevity and your health span.
Antioxidant for Lipid Peroxidation
Fisetin stands out as a remarkable nutrient for its antioxidant protection, especially against lipid peroxidation. This makes fisetin especially important for neurological protection and brain health.
Lipid peroxidation refers to an oxidative stress response that occurs with reactive oxygen species free radicals that damage lipids in cell membranes. Lipids like PUFAs or polyunsaturated fatty acids (omega-3,-6,-9, etc.) are highly susceptible to free radicals that lead to peroxidation.
Lipids are stored in the cell membranes of all your tissues, especially the brain. They are necessary for electrical activity, immune, inflammatory, cell signaling, and much more. Lipid peroxidation must be protected against as it is an indication of cell dysfunction and aging. It can be measured in a lab test.
Support for Cartilage and Joints
Fisetin has the potential to impact multiple age-related challenges beyond brain health. A small clinical trial in adults showed that fisetin provided positive effects on cartilage and joint health that support aging well with mobility and comfort.
Kidney Function, Liver, and Pancreas
A 2021 study showed that fisetin modulated gut microbiome metabolism against the effects of uric acid. This in turn protected kidney function. Uric acid levels often increase in response to intake of high fructose corn syrup, fructose, and sucrose-rich foods.
Further research demonstrates fisetin’s ability to provide antioxidant effects for kidney function and improve cell viability against other cell stress compounds. Other studies demonstrate the antioxidant, antiaging effects of fisetin in the liver and pancreas.
Antioxidant Protection Against Heavy Metals
Wait! There is more to discover! Fisetin also displays antioxidant activities against several heavy metals found ubiquitously in food, water, soil, air, and other environmental sources. Exposure to these compounds must be detoxified, neutralized, and either stored in tissues or removed from your body. The effects of these heavy metal compounds are detrimental to health.
New research shows us that fisetin also provides antioxidant support against arsenic and fluoride. This animal study exposed mice to small amounts of arsenic and fluoride in their drinking water for 28 days.
Measurements evaluated their coordination, mood-behavior, memory, and lab markers like TNF-a. Oxidative stress levels were lower in the group that received fisetin in the diet despite the exposure to these heavy metals. The test results reflected improved cellular tolerance against the stress of arsenic and fluoride. Other research shows fisetin helps protect against the toxic stress of methylmercury during pregnancy and early life.
The Power of Bioflavonoids
Like turmeric/curcumin, resveratrol, pterostilbene, ginger, blueberries, and many others, you want to have a diet rich in phytonutrients. Fisetin is a bioflavonoid found most abundantly in strawberries with lesser amounts in other fruits and vegetables. However, strawberries have some of the highest pesticides levels of all fruits.
If eating pounds of organic strawberries every day isn’t feasible, then consider using supplemental fisetin. We offer Fisetin with 100 mg of Novusetin® Fisetin per capsule and Brain Protector. Brain Protector has 50 mg of Novusetin® Fisetin combined with AuroraBlue® Wild Blueberry Complex, Longvida® Optimized Curcumin Extract, and na-R-Alpha Lipoic Acid, making it a comprehensive brain support formula.
Aging well with your whole body – brain, joints, kidneys, liver, pancreas, etc. is having enough antioxidant and nutrient reserves stored in your organs and tissues to manage daily stressors and chronic low-level toxic exposures that age your body. How are you doing with the challenge of aging well?
